I don’t even know where to begin with my review of Nicole Sanchez and Behind the Lens Maui. As a bride, it is very scary to book a photographer from thousands of miles away with never having met her. Let me put all your fears aside right now! If you are considering Nicole, you have made the right decision! Book her ASAP! Not only is she professional and personable, but her work is amazing. She captured every moment of our special day so perfectly. I can’t think of anything that she could have done better. We love our wedding pictures and we had a great time with Nicole! She is a complete joy to work with, she felt like part of the wedding party! I never felt like she was obvious during our ceremony. She took her pictures in a very inconspicuous manner, and never interrupted the flow of the ceremony. When taking pictures after the ceremony, she is quick and gets all the perfect shots!

Really and truly I cannot go on enough about how great Nicole is and how amazing her photos are. We are so happy we had Nicole as our photographer and highly recommend her to anyone and everyone!

Sincerely,
Stephen and Tara

Nicole’s work is amazing! My husband and I were married in Maui on May 2, 2011. We were lucky enough to have Nicole as our photographer! Not only did she go above and beyond what we ever expected, she is an exceptional person! Nicole has a great personality and was easy to work with. She made my husband and I feel so comfortable getting our photos taken. Right after our wedding Nicole was in contact with us regarding our photos to answer any questions and assist us in choosing our photos. Once we viewed our photos we were so happy. The photos were beautiful. The detail and color in the photos are immaculate. You can tell that Nicole has made photography her life! Nicole is very efficient and a true professional! I would recommend her in a second! Anyone getting married in Maui needs to hire Nicole as their photographer!

20th Century Pictorial Photographer Mary Devens

Born 154 years ago today, on 17 May 1857 in Ware, Massachusetts, Mary Devens was considered one of the ten most prominent pictorial photographers of the early 20th century.
She was listed as a founding member of Alfred Stieglitz’s famed Photo-Secession.

Devens developed an interest in photography sometime in early life, with a strong interest in printing techniques that could be manipulated by the photographer, including ozotype, gum bichromate and platinum printing. She mastered the gum bichomate process so well that she gave a lecture on it to the Cambridge Photographic Club in 1896.
Mary Devens met Boston photographer F. Holland Day in 1890s, who personally submitted five of her prints to the London Photographic Salon of 1898 and was responsible for introducing her to photographer Alfred Stieglitz, with whom she would regularly correspond for many years. Day also promoted her work in his famous lecture “Photography as Fine Art” at the Harvard Camera Club in 1900 and included several of her prints in his 1901 exhibition “The New School of American Photography.”

In 1900-1901, several of her photographs were added to the important Paris exhibition of women photographers organized by Frances Benjamin Johnston.
In 1902 Devens was elected to Britain’s Linked Ring, and Stieglitz listed her as a founding member of the Photo-Secession. That same year Stieglitz also listed her as one of the ten most prominent American pictorial photographers in an article in Century Magazine.
About this same time Devens’ eyesight began to fail rapidly due to an unknown cause. After 1904 she showed only a few prints in exhibitions, although Stieglitz included her work in the in augural exhibition at his Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession in 1905. She is not known to have engaged in any photographic activity after 1905.
Devens died on 13 March 1920 in Cambridge.
