MAUI, Hawaii (CBS) Laura Vogel, an avid surfer and experienced camper, has gone missing in Hawaii.
Vogel was last heard from Sunday night, Feb. 21. She told a friend she planned to camp alone in the Pauwela area of Maui County, but sent a text saying “I’m camped down the way from birthing pools and meeting all the locals.”
No one has been able to contact her since.
Someone knows something,” Jessica Vogel, Laura’s sister-in-law, toldCrimesider. “She was with people that night and the police have not spoken to anyone who claims to have seen her. We need help finding her.”

When Laura Vogel, a self employed tutor, failed to show up Monday for a tutoring session her friends got worried and tried to reach her but failed. Her friends reported her missing to the police but were told they would have to wait 24 hours to begin the search.
Jessica Vogel said that Laura’s friends, who knew the area where she had been camping, decided to form their own search. They found her van near a homeless encampment with the keys in the ignition and the driver’s side door open, but no sign of Laura.
A friend of Laura’s, Jennifer Lynn, said that Wednesday afternoon her cell phone records revealed two calls to a number that was not in Laura’s phonebook and the voice on the voice mail greeting was a “tough sounding” male unlike any of Laura’s friends.
Wednesday evening the fire department found part of her cell phone along the cliffs at the birthing pools.
If you have any information, please call the Maui Police Department at (808) 244-6425 and ask for Detective Callinen or Lt. Jacob Zack, and refer to case number 10-14126.
