Taking photos of your baby

Taking pictures of your new baby is a great way to preserve life long memories. Baby pictures can also make great postcards, keepsakes, or baby shower gifts. Here are some simple tips to get great baby pictures:

1) Avoid bright light – Babies are especially sensitive to bright light including harsh sunlight and flash photography. If possible, try to take photos during the day when flash photography is not necessary. You can also use lamps to create lighting.

2) Take pictures from different distances – Try to take pictures from different distances. Most people like to take close-up pictures, but pictures that are too close can be blurry and out of focus. By taking several pictures from different distances, you can keep the ones that are the best.

3) Be aware of your baby’s mood – Try not to start a photo session when your baby is cranky or crying. If your baby is in a bad mood, then wait awhile until he or she is better rested or calmed. You will get better pictures when your baby is in good spirits.

4) Use a high quality camera and film – This tip may seem simple, but is worth saying. Using high quality cameras and film can make a big difference in the quality of the photo, especially if you are creating photo gifts or favors.

5) Get rid of any distractions – Make sure there are not too many distractions when taking pictures. Anything that moves or makes noise, like the TV, should be turned off is possible. Having too many people around can also be distracting for the baby.

Aloha,

It’s been a very busy summer and it’s been one beautiful wedding after another here on Maui. I have been photographing  up to three weddings per day and have had numerous all day weddings June, July and August. It looks like I am slowing down a bit for September a little bit which is great becuase I can finally take a couple days off and do something for myself like go to the beach. Funny that I live on Maui and am so pale.

I will be running an October Special for Weddings and Family Portraits and will post the details shortly. If you plans include visiting Maui in October or November and your thinking of tying the knot or perhaps want your family photos taken to make your Christmas cards from Please give us a call at 808 205-2366.

Destination Wedding Photography, Wedding Reception in Houston

Dec 30
2009

I recently flew to Houston to shoot my friends wedding reception. It was a long flight from Maui, Hawaii with a stop over in Phoenix Arizona. It was a long way to go but, it was awesome to see my friend whom I haven’t seen in about 8 years.

I stayed at the Marriott in Sugarland Texas where there was an awesome shopping area around the hotel with many restaurants and a big mall near by within walking distance. I wished I hadn’t been so jet lagged as I missed girls night out, sleeping right through it. I was able to catch a bite to eat at an awesome Italian restaurant and walked through a real mall, YES A MALL…. It’s the little things you miss like a mall with numerous amounts of stores to choose from when you live on a island.  We don’t have a real malls in Maui so, being in a place with lots to do was amazing. I was so excited and probably looked like a kid in a candy store looking in each store with amazement in my eyes. Unfortunitly,  I didn’t have the extra cash to buy myself something new to wear but, looking was almost as good. It was nice to just get away and see something different.

I love my job as a wedding photographer and when I’m able to shoot a Destination Wedding, I’m all over it.   What can I say,  I love my work. If your looking for a photographer who loves what she does and will do whatever possible from water or land to capture your special day then please call Behind The Lens Maui Photography. I’m willing to travel to shoot your destination wedding.
