One of my recent clients left this parasol with me to use for a prop for wedding photos and it sure has made for allot of great shots.   I’m not on a mission to collect cool props like this one.

Why do people Toss Rice at a wedding?

Why do people Toss Rice at a wedding?

It is said that by tossing rice at the bride and groom following the ceremony that  the newlyweds brought good luck.  In the days of the horse and buggy, the guests used to shower them with nuts and grains to insure a bountiful harvest, and many children to work the land. During years of a poor harvest, rice was tossed instead. This tradition continues today with rice or birdseed (where permitted),  flower peddles or bubbles to wish the Bride and Groom much happiness. Incidentally, it is not true that birds eating rice thrown after a wedding ceremony will cause their stomachs to enlarge and eventually explode.  If you decide to incorporate this to your wedding and please make arrangements to have someone pick up any left over confetti or flower peddles.  As a wedding photographer in Maui, I mostly see confetti, bubbles and flower peddles. Having the guess participate in this tradition surly is a great addition to bride and groom’s wedding  photos.

 Wedding Photography- Your wedding Photos

There are key moments in every wedding that you want to have documented by your Maui wedding photographer, but you may or may not want your wedding photography to resemble traditional images. One of the best ways for a bride to figure out how to request the wedding photography she wants is to visualize the story book she wants to look at in a few years.

One way to help a bride visualize their wedding photography is to sit down and write out a memory book while visualizing the pictures that could go there. Make notes in the margins of the pages. Write down things like: “Mom’s smiling, but you can see the tears in her eyes.” Or “Mary looks great in the dress, but what is she looking at?” Go for the funny lines, go for the sentimental and go for your own personality. These are the lines that you want to be able to show to your Maui wedding photographer.

Think of them as a road map to your own book of memories. There plenty of important ceremony moments that your wedding photography will capture, but you can give the photographer tips on how you want those images to look and the shots he or she should be looking for:

Important Ceremony Moments:

- Procession (Bride/Father; Close Up of Bride’s Mother, Close up of Groom waiting)

-The passing of the Bride’s hand from the father to the mother

-Profile Shot of Bride and Groom in front of the Minister as the ceremony Begins

- Exchange of Vows/Rings

-The Kiss

As a Maui wedding photographer, I always conduct multiple consultations and have the potential client fill out a detailed photography questionnaire and encourage the bride and groom to send me sample photos of what they like. I also have them describe in detail how they envision their wedding album to look like in detail.

Wedding Gowns- Consider your location before choosing Your Dress

If you’re getting married outside in warm weather, or on the beaches of Maui,  please take your wedding dress into consideration. I’ve personally witnessed many a bride struggle with being hot, padding off the perspiration for her Maui Wedding photos because the material she chose was not considered for the location of the wedding. If you see a dress you like, please consider the location your going to be married at. If your wedding is in a church, make sure there is air conditioning and that it works. You want to be comfortable, and some fabrics/styles can be too hot. Stick with strapless, strappy, sleeveless or short sleeved gowns, and stay away from heavy material such as velvet or brocade.
