Do’s and Don’ts for your Renewal Vow Service
When planning your ceremony remember that a renewal service is less formal and is not the same as an actual wedding. Therefore, consider a few things that you should not include, such as a gift registry, bridal shower, maid of honor or best man, pre-wedding parties like a bachelor or bachelorette, and a tiered wedding cake. At your renewal ceremony you should write your own vows, keep it simple and casual, have a toast, a no-gift reception, a floral bouquet and have your rings either engraved with the date or blessed, as there is no need to buy new rings.
A renewal vow ceremony is not a legal ceremony, which would allow you to have anyone you want to officiate your renewal vows. Perhaps a close friend, who has been with you and your spouse since the beginning and has seen your relationship grow and change. Another option would be to have one of your children perform the ceremony, after all they know you best while growing up watching you and learning from your examples of what a relationship should be. The renewal of your wedding vows can be full of meaning and touch all the people that mean the most to you throughout your life.
