It is said that in some cultures, the groom carved a spoon which were covered with symbols and announcements of their love for one another. Some of the traditions in the early centuries are still used today. Some of the love tokens could include a song or poem written by the groom to his bride, or a hand embroidered handkerchief for the groom.
