Gannon’s Wedding Maui

NicoleUncategorizedLeave a Comment

It was a small destination wedding for these two who decided to fly to Maui for their wedding. Joseph and Christina had their closest friends and family in attendance the ceremony was held at Gannon’s lower lawn overlooking Wailea. The ceremony started with Reverend Robert blowing the conch shell and the bride walked eloquently in from the top of the grassy hill into the ceremony. There Hawaiian wedding singer Jimi Canha sang to the couple and the ceremony began. The bride’s parents were joyful and the groom’s father filled with love as he watched his daughter get married. This was defiantly an emotional moment for the couple, their family and friends as there were moments of laughter, tears and loving smiles. After the ceremony the family embraced the newly married couple and then made their way back to Gannon’s for drinks while, the videographer. ” Wangdu Hovey” and I swept the couple off to take their wedding photos at a nearby beach called Poolenalena.

The couple seem lost into one another and so, it make my job as a Maui wedding photographer much easier to capture some tender moments. It’s always nice to walk away from a wedding feeling good about being there to capture true love on film. Wishing you the best of everything, cheers to you both for a long happy life together.

Wedding Party

Eryn and Ryan, from Bellingham, Washington, shared a dream of getting married with their closest friends and family in attendance. A destination wedding in Maui was just a dream which manifested into reality.  The couple rented a beautiful estate in South Maui large enough to house the entire family. The property had an enormous yard which easily housed their friends and family and a large tent for their reception to follow the wedding. Originally, the couple wanted to hold their ceremony on the beach across the street but, it was very windy the morning of their wedding so they decided to adjust and hold the ceremony in the back yard of the house which turned out the be the perfect idea for a wedding party.

The ceremony was filled with tears of joy and enormous laughter amongst the guests, friends and family and the couple were glowing with joy and eternal love. The couple kissed and broke out two cans of Coors light and chugged down the bear and were smiling from ear to ear. We went straight into family and friends photos and then the wedding party and the couple decided to do their photos at the beach. Everyone grabbed a new beer and we began what turned out to be a fun time taking photos of the wedding party on the beach. We had an amazing time together and I think it shows in their wedding photos.

Congratulations to you both and I hope you have a very happy and long life of love together.

Maui Portrait Session

NicoleMaui PortraitsLeave a Comment

I received a call from Aaron who wanted to set up a Maui portrait session for him and his girlfriend “Amy”.  Aaron shared that they were living in Japan where they had just gotten engaged and soon to be married.  He also shared that he was going to bring Amy here on Maui to celebrate in a nice Maui engagement vacation, and wanted to take their engagement photos to share with friends and family back home. We emailed back and forth for a few weeks discussing the details and planning for the photo session. Finally, the day come for us to meet at the Andaz Hotel in Wailea.

We decided on Poolenalena beach as our destination. We had started our session there and then made the walk over to Paipu beach where we then finished our portrait session with some lovely sunset photos. My job as a Maui photographer was effortless; as the couple was so easy to work with. I think at times they even forgot I was even there! Engrossed and lost in one another seamlessly, I watched as they filled the air with romance and laughter. As I clicked away, they occasionally looked back for some direction, but they were really just relaxed and happy to be in Maui celebrating their wedding engagement.

The air was definitely filled with love this afternoon at the beach and not only was it a easy shoot, and we laughed and joked around like old friends. My lighting assistant, Trevor, and I had a wonderful time with this couple and are hoping they decide to make it back to Maui for their wedding photos. Thank  you for choosing us at Behind The Lens Maui for your Maui Portrait Session.

Maui Wedding Photography

Working as a Maui Wedding Photographer was a dream of mine that became a reality about 10 years ago. When I moved to Maui and started my business I set myself free and now find that going to work is no longer a chore, It’s something fun that I have the privilege of being able to do each and every day. I find myself looking out to the ocean on my drive to work and catch myself grinning from ear to ear because I’m living in Maui, my favorite place and  am driving to work with wedding clients who are here on vacation, in love and happy as I am to be here.

I love to capture intimate beach weddings as well as larger events but find that when I’m with the couple alone is when things really shine for me. When you connect with the client  It’s amazing how you can actually their love and it’s very uplifting and heart warming to be able to be apart of their special day. When you look at this couple in their wedding photos, you can see the way they are looking at one another and it makes me smile and forever thankful for what I do. Bringing everlasting memories with wedding photography is so rewarding and fullfilling and I count my blessing every day for each and every client that I encounter.

I want to say, ” Thank you” to all my past clients for giving me a special gift and that’s doing what I love to do which I couldn’t do with you.

This beach wedding was held at Makena Surf in South Maui with Reverend Robert Bosco who preformed a warm heartfelt wedding ceremony for Aloha Maui Weddings.  Thanks to my lighting assistant, Trevor Natividad for always being there with me to help things go smoothly and for keeping me on track.

Destination Wedding

NicoleUncategorizedLeave a Comment

Deidre Johnson and Lyndale Burleson from Washington decided on a private wedding at a beautiful estate in Olowalu, Maui. This destination Maui wedding was coordinated by Tina Digman as well as catered by Tina and her husband Rob who own, Food For The Soul, what I consider the best on Maui.

The wedding was held at a beautiful private beach front estate on Olowalu owned by the same owners as the Plantation house a very popular wedding spot.  The day began with Deidra arriving in style by limo with her mother, brides maids and maid of honor. The groom with his best man and groomsmen followed suit shortly after the ladies arrived.  The moments before the wedding were very low key and everyone filled the room with smiles and laughter.  As soon as the guest trickeld in and setted in, the wedding began under a lovely canapy and ocean in background. The couples wedding vows were nothing short of loving with a bit of laughter.

Following the wedding ceremony, we started with family photos and then whisked the couple off for their couple’s photography session on the beach as the sun was getting ready to settle into the ocean.  It was the perfect setting for the bride and grooms first dance followed by the bride and father and the groom and his mother. The bride and groom mingled with their guests as the efficient staff from Food For The Souls staff began serving.

Our wedding photography concluded with cake cutting and some candid shots of the couple as they greeted their wedding guest.  The private Olowalu estate provided the perfect venue for a beautiful Maui destination wedding and my hats go off to Tina Digman for yet another smooth wedding event.  A special thanks to my assistant Trevor Natividad for stepping out of the box and taking the camera into hand and capturing some special moments on film.

Andaz Hotel Wedding

NicoleUncategorizedLeave a Comment

Stephanie and Terrance decided to get married in Maui with all their friends and family in attendance. We first met back in January this year when they came to check out the Andaz hotel, the location for their wedding and do do their engagement session that was included in their wedding photography package.  I worked long distance via e-mail and telephone appointments with the couple and their wedding coordinator to finalize all the details in advance. We met up a couple days before their wedding day to do a walk through of the property to plan where they wanted photos taken at on the property before and after their wedding ceremony.

After months of planning, their big day was here and the event ran smooth as silk, the couple, family and friends had an amazing time. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Pia. who preformed a heartwarming ceremony. The couple incorporated a traditional sand ceremony which made for great wedding photos as well as interjected their own wedding vows. The end of the ceremony was joyous and the couple happily trotted down the aisle with smiles from ear to ear.  We moved right into family photos and then took a bit of time with the couple on the beach for some intimate shots on the sand.  The two had walked hand in hand down the beach, giggling and enjoying each other’s laughter making my job as a Maui wedding photographer effortless.

The reception was nothing other than lovely, fun filled and all the friends and family were having the time of their lives into the night.  It was a lovely celebration and a honor to be a part of this lovely wedding at the Andaz Hotel in Wailea.  I’d like to thank Ian Shepherd, my top team member for helping with the beautiful wedding photography he contributed at this wedding. Ian is a great addition to our wedding photography team and we are lucky to have him.  Also thank- you to Trevor Natividad for hustling all day and being such a wonderful lighting assistant.

Easy To Love You

NicoleMaui Wedding Photography, Uncategorized, Wedding photographyLeave a Comment

There are clients that you meet and instantly connect with, everything just seems to flows naturally.  This wedding couple was one of those intimate beach weddings that delivered an instant internal connection.   The wedding was supposed to be held ” Secret Beach / Makena Cove at sunset but, when we arrived it was very crowded with multiple weddings happening all at the same time.  We made the decision to make a short drive to another location and to see if we could find a spot that was a bit more secluded and we did. We ended up at the far end of Makena Surf #1 near the rocks. The location ended up being the perfect spot, we lucked out and had the spot all to ourselves making it an ideal situation for me, as a Maui Wedding Photographer.

Following the ceremony we spent time taking family photos and then went right into couples photos as the began to settle into the the water for a nice sunset. The couple was very easy to work with since the couple was completly focused on each other, you can tell they were trurly in love.

Couple’s Portraits Maui

NicoleMaui Photographer, Maui Photography, Maui PortraitsLeave a Comment

Couples are getting ready for their summer vacations in Maui and are looking for fun things to do together that will bring every lasting memories. I have the perfect solution, a couples portrait session on the beach.

Clients often ask us what beaches make for the best locations for their portrait session.  I always ask them what side of the island their staying as most clients prefer to near their hotels, while others on the West side of Maui sometimes will consider making the drive to the South side. The West side of Maui is also called known as the “Lahaina”side has some limitations on where you can take photos on the beach due to a law in place that prevents commercial photography on the beaches of Kaanapali. With that in mind, the best places for photography on the West side is really limited to two locations: Kapalua Bay and IronWoods Beach. Ironwoods Beach is a wonderful location that offers a lot of diversity in backdrops, however, the one drawback is you cannot see the sunset from that location, thus leaving only Kapalua Bay for a sunset shoot on the West side.  The most popular photography locations on the South side are: Makena Cove, Paipu Beach, Poolenalena or Makena Surf. There are many more beaches in south Maui that make great locations however, some of them tend to be more populated.

This sweet couple recently visited Maui and were staying in West Maui and wanted a early morning shoot  before they left to the airport.  We ended up at Poolenalena Beach which has a long stretch of beach to walk on all alone with your sweetheart.  We have a strong team of photographers waiting capture you and your loved one on one of the many beaches of Maui this summer.

Same Sex Wedding

NicoleMaui Photographer, Maui PhotographyLeave a Comment

I had a call from one of my fellow photographers, “Penny Palmer” saying she had a same sex wedding that she was not able to accommodate due to already being booked and asked if I was available. Thankfully, I had the date still open and jumped into action and phoned to learn more about the couple.  After a few e-mails back in forth the couple decided that our wedding packages fit within their budget. I enjoyed our conversations and was looking forward to meeting the couple.  When we met in person, I instantly loved the couple and knew it was a great match.  The first thing I noticed was that Dino and Jon are meant to be together, you could just feel the love in the air and the way they looked into one another’s eyes seriously gave me goosebumps,  it was amazing to chosen as their Maui wedding photographer.

The couple decided a destination wedding in Maui would be perfect as they used to live on island and have several close friends who happily gathered for their intimate ceremony at Paipu beach in South Maui.  We walked to the far north end of the beach to get away from beach goers and found the perfect cove all to ourselves. It was a bit cloudy and overcast that day and the waves were pretty big so we had a small space for their beach ceremony.  The ceremony was very touching, the couple along with their friends laughed and cried tears of happiness.  We had a great time taking couples photos together after the ceremony, we climbed on the rocks, got hit by waves and managed to get some wonderful memories caught on film.
